HOW TO FIND YOUR REASON FOR GETTING UP IN THE MORNING

So here you are. Perhaps you have retired, maybe your children have flown the nest and have started to create a life of their own. Maybe you’re feeling a huge hole in your life. Your main purpose – your job or your children – are no longer there. What does that feel like?

We now live between 20 and 30 years longer than our great grandparents did. How do you want to live those years?

Do you have something that makes you look forward to getting up in the morning?

If you do, then you have a sense of purpose. If you don’t, then perhaps your life feels empty and meaningless.

If you don’t know what might give you that sense of purpose, see if the ideas below kick off more ideas:

  • You love making a positive difference in people’s lives and knowing that makes you feel good about yourself.
For example, if you babysit, you know what difference that makes to your children who, thanks to you, know they can do whatever needs doing without worrying.
  • You have a hobby or an interest that you truly love.
  • You volunteer at one of those charities you really believe in.
If you don’t, you might like to check out various charities and non-profit organisations either on the internet or in your local reference library.

Could it be that you already do things you love but hadn’t noticed because you’ve been doing them for a long time? To double-check if this is true for you, ask yourself:

“When I do these things, do I feel energized and happy afterwards or do I feel drained and exhausted?” If the second one is true for you, then what you’re doing is not right for you.

Here’s another thought:

Feeling fulfilled is not only energising; it has a huge impact on your health and wellbeing.

Being busy is not the same as being fulfilled.

However, if you mistakenly believe you have nothing to offer, your energy levels will be low and you might dread getting up in the morning.

How long are you prepared to do that!?

Doing more of the things you love will give you a greater sense of purpose, you will feel really good about yourself and the day will just fly. At the end of it, you will feel a lovely glow of achievement.

You only have one life to live.

If you long to do something that makes you feel good about yourself but don’t know how to start, give me a call and let’s figure it out together.
